Freesia was discovered in South Africa, in the Cape Colony. Also known as the “Cape lily-of-the-valley”, the name “Freesia” was been assigned to the flower in 1830 by botanic Ecklon, a collector of plants in South Africa. The name was chosen in honor of his friend, the German doctor F. Freese. Freesia is a symbol of unconditional love, innocence and resistance. The flower symbolizes the 7th year of marriage in some culture.
